How Much I Love to Sing

Last night, we had our first choir rehearsal for Christmas Eve – a throw-together choir of anyone who was interested, and open to all ages who can read words.  We had probably 25 people, and it was WONDERFUL!  I get so excited when people get together to sing.  Every person has their own unique voice, and when they are raised together it is the sound that God intended for humans to produce!  Now, don’t get me wrong.  I love all kinds of music, organic and electonic, spontaneous and methodical.  But there is just something profound about the voice.  Each choir has its own individual tone and sound and blend that makes it one of a kind.

We are singing two pieces that are “mash-ups” – bringing two songs together in a way that is wonderful and new.  The first is a combination of Silent Night and Largo from Dvorak’s New World Symphony.  It’s quite lovely.  The second is a combination of The First Noel and Pachelbel’s Canon in D.  That one is a little more crazy.  But they are both wonderful and interesting, and just familiar enough for Christmas without going off a deep end.  There are few times of the year when people get as picky about their music as the holidays!

The choir is still accepting members, and we would love to have you join us!  We’re practicing on Wednesdays after Advent worship for 45 minutes, right up until Christmas Eve, and we’re performing at the 9:00 service.  It is a joy, and I hope you can be with us!
