Update for Friday, January 20th

St. Matthew’s church office will be closed and all programs and events are canceled, including Middle School Go Night, which will be rescheduled for March 2nd. We will continue to monitor weather conditions and will update accordingly.

During inclement weather conditions, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church follows the Renton School District closure and 90 minute late start schedule. This means that during a school closure, St. Matthew’s will be closed and evening classes, programs and events will be canceled. If there is a 90 minute late start, due to weather conditions, evening classes, programs and events will be canceled.

We encourage everyone to PLEASE be safe!

2012 Inclement Weather Update!

During inclement weather conditions, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church follows the Renton School District closure and 90 minute late start schedule. This means that during a school closure, St. Matthew’s will be closed and evening classes and events will be canceled. If there is a 90 minute late start, due to weather conditions, evening classes and events will be canceled.

Due to the decision of the Renton School District to close schools on Wednesday, January 18, SMLC will not have evening classes, including Confirmation, and the Straight Talk class taught by Pastor Kirby. Information on make-up classes and rescheduled classes will be announced at a later date.

The church office will be closed as well, if the weather conditions are questionable.

We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and update the schedule accordingly.

St. Matthew’s After School Program needs your votes! We have entered ourselves in a contest to receive a grant for $5000 from the The Pepsi Refresh Everything program. This program awards grants to charitable organizations who apply for the money and who are able to get into the top 20 in voting for their category. Each person can vote twice per day for the idea, so it’s important to vote every day and get as many people as possible to vote as well.

What’s Synod Assembly?

If you would like to learn more about the Lutheran church and how it functions, there is a hands on opportunity available. The Northwest Washington Synod Assembly will be held on May 13-14 in Lynnwood. It is the annual gathering of all the churches in NW WA to do our synod’s business, to receive reports from the national church, and to connect with other people around the area. Each church is asked to send a certain number of women, men, and youth. You don’t need any specific skill set, since training is provided on your role at the assembly. It’s also possible to attend as a visitor. You won’t be alone; our pastors go too! If you are interested or have questions, contact one of the pastors.

New Vocal Ensemble Planned

We are planning a new a capella vocal ensemble. We will be working on advanced pieces drawing from a variety of styles including; Jazz, Gospel, and Bluegrass. Group is limited to twelve members and you must pass a basic audition, however – don’t let this scare you if you have always wanted to sing this kind of music!

The group will most likely begin working on music after Easter.

Singing For Non-Singers Class to Begin this Spring

Have you always been curious about learning to sing, but were too scared to give it a shot??? This opportunity is for you. The class is designed for those completely new to singing and being terrified is a prerequisite.

The groundwork for this class is under construction, but we will keep you posted when the sign-up process begins.

Looking for Sound Technicians and PowerPoint People

If you have an interest in being a very important part of the worship experience, but just don’t see yourself shredding on guitar just yet, there is a place for you!

We are always looking for people to learn to run sound and setup for the bands and other special events. We will train you on everything.

Have a passion for simple graphics and images? Then PowerPoint presentation may be your niche. It isn’t hard to do and provides a very meaningful ministry.
